Julia King (DBE), the Baroness Brown of Cambridge visited Heriot-Watt University Malaysia on 27 May 2016 to speak to students on the University’s Go Global programme.

Five students, two from the Edinburgh Campus and three from the Malaysia Campus who will be transferring to the UK soon, attended the visit. Also present was Sarah Tate from Education is Great under the British High Commission KL and Fiona Louis, Assistant Trade Manager at UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

The event was hosted by Heriot-Watt University Malaysia’s Provost and CEO, Prof. Robert Craik and Chief Operating Officer, Janice Yew together with other departmental heads.

Over the hour-long session, the Baroness shared her experience and gave advice and she was very interested to hear feedback from the UK students who have been in Malaysia for the past year.

The Baroness lauded the Go Global programme by the University, which enables campus transfers between its three international campuses without any academic barriers.

This is the second time that the British High Commission has visited Heriot-Watt University Malaysia since the launch of Education is Great, which took place at the lakeside campus earlier this year in February.

We have loved travelling around South East Asia, and it has definitely made some of our peers back in Edinburgh truly wish that they took the plunge to transfer at the same time that we did.

The UK campus students have said that they are glad that the University has developed the Go Global programme that has enabled them to transfer to Malaysia without much interruption to their studies.

“We have loved travelling around South East Asia, and it has definitely made some of our peers back in Edinburgh truly wish that they took the plunge to transfer at the same time that we did. We hope that more UK students will take the opportunity to transfer to the Malaysian Campus,” said Stephen Hughes, who is pursuing his Business degree.

The students have all been invited by the British High Commission to attend UCAS fairs in the UK as Malaysian ambassadors, to encourage more Europeans to transfer to Malaysia.
