Curtin Sarawak Open Day to include fun activities for children

Sand art will be one of the fun activities for the children.

Miri – 12 September 2014 – Children attending the annual Curtin Sarawak Open Day at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) this 20 September 2014 can look forward to a great time at the ‘Kiddies Corner’, one of the annual event’s most popular attractions.

It will be held in the air-conditioned event hall of the university’s Recreation & Event Centre, and will feature attractions for children of all ages, including a colouring contest, telematch, inflatable soccer, face painting, balloon sculpting, sand art, toddlers’ corner, and more.

The fun will start at 9.10 am with the colouring contest for children aged 4 to 6 years after registration of the participants from 8.45 am to 9.00 am. Children taking part in the colouring contest are advised to bring their own colour pencils.

This will be followed by the telematch for children 7 to 9 years of age, which will include father-and-son and mother-and-daughter 3-legged races and other games.

The prize-giving for the colouring contest and telematch will be at 1.00 pm. The winners will receive medals while all participants will receive goodie bags.

From 1.45 pm to 2.45 pm, the children will get to meet and take photographs with two movie characters, Iron Man and Bumblebee from ‘The Transformers’, as well as enjoy ‘Inflatable Soccer’. In addition, there will be opportunities to take interesting photographs of oneself at a photo booth and ‘Selfie Corner’ and younger children can enjoy themselves at a ‘Toddlers’ Corner’.

According to Mohd. Firdaus Khaidir Razali, chairman of the Kiddies Corner sub-committee, the Kiddies Corner attracts hundreds of children each year and upwards of 100 children participate in the colouring contest. He said the event has been promoted to local schools and he hopes to see a good response again this year.

All the Kiddies Corner activities are scheduled to end by 3.00 pm, allowing the children and their parents time to visit other showcases and activities before the official close of Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2014 at 5.00 pm.

Other highlights of the Curtin Sarawak Open Day are an Innovation Expo; Future Students’ Booth and academic activities for invited secondary school students; car and big bike shows; Melanau Tibou and cultural showcase; Charity & Community Corner; stage performances; Kiddies’ Corner; free health checks, blood donation drive and mobile dental clinic; food and beverage stalls and games booths; 15th Anniversary Exhibition; and attractive door gifts and lucky draw prizes.

There will also be a fishing competition and Newspaper Bag Design & Break Competition, both of which are open to the public, and a Mr & Miss Curtin Contest and Curtin – CPA Australia Entrepreneurship Challenge, which is open to students of the university.

The Curtin Sarawak Open Day is the grandest and most anticipated annual event at the Curtin Sarawak campus and an occasion for the university to showcase its facilities, academic programmes and vibrant campus life amidst much fun and festivity. This year’s event is of special significance as it mark’s Curtin Sarawak’s fifteenth year anniversary and there will be much celebration of its achievements since its establishment as the first international campus of Curtin University in 1999.
