Miri – 27 November 2014 – The School of Business at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently donated funds amounting to RM3,700 to the Miri Kidney Dialysis Centre as part of the university’s commitment to supporting communities in which it operates.

The funds were proceeds from sales at the School of Business’ booths at the Innovation Expo, as well as cash prizes won by the school, at the Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2014 last September. The school won the Pro Vice-Chancellor’s Innovation Showcase Challenge Trophy and awards for ‘Best Community Outreach Project’ and ‘Best Teamwork’, which came with cash prizes amounting to RM2,000.

At a simple cheque ceremony held at the Miri Kidney Dialysis Centre, the head of the School of Business’ Foundation Studies Department, Crystal Lau Chun Yun, handed over a cheque to the centre’s chief operating officer, Jurip Ngaot. Also present were staff and students of the school.

Following the handover, Jurip brought the staff and students on a tour of the centre and briefed them on its management and operations. According to Jurip, the centre is funded solely through public donations and any monetary support is most welcome and appreciated.

Curtin Sarawak’s School of Business offers one-year (2-semester) Foundation Studies – Commerce and Arts Streamprogrammes that lead to undergraduate programmes in Business Administration, Commerce (both single and double majors) and Arts (Mass Communication).

It also offers postgraduate certificate, diploma and Master’s courses by coursework in Project Management and Policy Sciences; and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees by research in areas such as Accounting, Business Law and Taxation, Economics and Finance, Information Systems, Management, Marketing and Public Relations.
