Miri – 21 August 2015 – The ninth Open Day of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) this 26 September will be an opportunity for potential students and their parents to discover the campus and find out more about studying there.

They can visit the Future Students Booth, one of the event’s main attractions each year, where staff of the university’s Marketing Department will be on hand to help them make informed decisions about what courses to take and advise them on entry requirements and enrolment. On top of that, career and personality tests will be conducted.

Representatives from PTPTN, Yayasan Sarawak, Sarawak Shell, PETRONAS, Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (PENERAJU) and MARA are also expected to be present to provide information on scholarships and student loans.

Visitors to the booth at the John Curtin Building will be eligible to win attractive lucky draw prizes including an Air Asia voucher worth RM500 and Curtin Sarawak merchandise.

Another highlight at the Future Students Booth Apart will be a Canon Photo Booth where visitors can participate in an Instagram competition and stand to win a Canon Selphy CP 910 printer.

In addition, the Marketing Department will be opening a booth to promote the Curtin Young Associates (CYA), its youth outreach programme led by students of the university. Those signing up for membership on that day will receive exclusive CYA merchandise.

Membership in the CYA is open to secondary school students aged 15 to 19 throughout Sarawak. They stand to benefit from up-to-date information on higher education, online academic support, useful study tips, updates on happenings and developments at Curtin Sarawak, as well as participation in competitions and activities organised for members.

The Curtin Sarawak Open Day is the most anticipated annual event at the Curtin Sarawak campus. Established in 2006, it has since become an annual fixture and a key event in the university’s calendar of student recruitment and brand-building. Close to 10,000 people attended last year’s Open Day – the event’s largest crowd ever.

Apart from the Future Students Booth, other key attractions include the Innovation Expo showcasing the university’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, Faculty of Business and Humanities, Graduate School and Curtin Sarawak Research Institute; a Charity & Community Corner participated by local NGOs; Kiddies’ Corner with special activities for children; as well as day-long stage performances, lucky draws and special event showcases.

In addition, there will be a wide range of food and beverage stalls operated by student clubs, staff, local hotels and eateries, where visitors can purchase and indulge in exotic food and beverages from around the world at very affordable prices. There will also be stalls featuring games and other activities.

A number of local businesses have also signed up to participate, promoting their goods and services at special booths for external participants, and more are expected to join in the coming weeks.
