Over 1,000 students apply to enrol in Curtin Sarawak’s August 2014 intake

New undergraduate students posing at their recent orientation. Foundation students have until 22 August to enrol.

Miri – 13 August 2014 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) has received over 1,000 applications from potential students interested to enrol in its August (second semester) intake for Foundation and undergraduate programmes.

While classes for its undergraduate programmes have commenced and new enrolees in those programmes have completed their orientation, enrolment for its one-year (2-semester) Foundation programmes (Commerce & Arts and Engineering & Science streams) continues. Potential students for the Foundation programmes are encouraged to submit their applications before 22 August 2014.

For entry into the programmes, students must have five SPM credits inclusive of English. For the Foundation Engineering & Science stream, students must have credits in mathematics and passes in additional mathematics, chemistry and physics.

According to former Foundation student Anna Liu Qiao Yun from Kuching, Curtin Sarawak is a great university where students can get the perfect education through the support of outstanding lecturers and professors and the availability of facilities such as its modern library and computer labs.

Another former Foundation student, Farid Bazlee bin Haji Morsidi from Brunei, remarked that although he faced a lot of challenges throughout his Foundation study, his course mates and lecturers were always ready to help him overcome them, adding that the university’s modern facilities provided an excellent study environment.

“I can find everything I need on campus such as study areas, a choice of food outlets, banking facilities, a campus bookshop, surau and public transport. I can also make use of recreational facilities such as the multi-purpose Recreation and Event Centre,” said Farid.

Curtin Sarawak’s Foundation programmes provide potential students an added pathway to move into higher education, as well as a solid foundation for students to adapt to university education at Curtin Sarawak more confidently, both in terms of level and style of education.

They challenge students to become active learners who can acquire, interpret, communicate and apply knowledge within and across disciplines to cultivate the integrative thinking required for undergraduate study. Students are provided strong academic support via advisory support programmes, additional teaching and learning workshops, tutorials and mentorship with lecturers.
