Over 1000 to graduate from Curtin Sarawak’s diploma, foundation and degree programmes this May

Curtin Sarawak stands proud for having produced close to 2,000 graduates in its 11-year existence

Miri – 14 March 2011 – Over 1000 students of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) will graduate from various pre-university and degree programmes this May, representing the highest number of graduands the university has seen since its establishment in 1999.

Approximately 400 students will be graduating from various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, about 560 from foundation science and engineering and foundation commerce and arts programmes, and over 50 from diploma programmes.

Four events are being organised at the Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club to mark this momentous occasion, beginning with the Diploma and Foundation Certificate Ceremony 2011 on 5 May.

This will be followed by the Graduation Ceremony 2011 on 6 May, and Award and Scholarship Ceremony 2011 and Curtin Alumni Dinner on 7 May. This year’s Graduation Ceremony will be the university’s tenth.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, who is also the state Minister of Tourism and Heritage and Minister of Industrial Development, as well as the chairman of the Curtin Sarawak Campus Council, is expected to officiate at both the Graduation Ceremony and Award and Scholarship Ceremony.

Assistant Minister of Communications and Assistant Minister of Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is also the chairman of the university’s management board, will meanwhile officiate at the Diploma and Foundation Certificate Ceremony.

The Chancellor of Curtin University, Dr Jim Gill, will be coming from Perth and the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Curtin Sarawak, Professor Ian Kerr, as well as members of the Curtin Sarawak Campus Council and Management Board, will also attend the events.

Students who have completed their programmes at the end of Semester 1 or Semester 2 of 2010 and have met all requirements for graduation have been invited to attend their respective ceremonies.

To confirm their attendance, all graduands are required to complete a response form available from the university’s Student Services Department or downloadable from the Curtin Sarawak Graduation homepage at www.curtin.edu.my/current/graduation.htm, and submit it the Student Services Department no later than 18 March 2011. Other relevant forms such as for academic regalia and photography services are also available from the Student Services Department or on the homepage.
