University of Nottingham Academic appointed to FAA Accreditation Panel

Dr Nafis Alam, Associate Professor of Finance with Nottingham University Business School Malaysia, was recently appointed to the accreditation panel of the Finance Accreditation Agency (FAA).

The FAA Accreditation Panel (FAP) consists of subject matter experts in their respective sectors, namely Islamic Finance, Insurance, Capital Markets, Conventional Banking and Corporate Programmes. Dr Alam brings to the panel his expertise in Islamic capital markets.

The FAA is responsible for raising the standards and quality of professional learning and development in the financial services industry. An independent quality assurance and accreditation body supported by Bank Negara Malaysia (the Central Bank of Malaysia) and Securities Commission Malaysia, it is executed by a committee of technical experts, industry professionals and leading academics from the international financial services industry.

The appointment of a specialist in Islamic finance reflects the importance of Islamic finance in the Malaysian economy as well as in the higher education sector” said Dr Alam.

He added that The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, with its specialised Centre for Islamic Business and Finance Research, is committed towards the development of the knowledge base on Islamic banking and finance.

Dr. Alam, who is the director of Centre for Islamic Business and Finance Research (CIBFR) at The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, has conducted comprehensive research on Islamic capital markets, and has published in leading finance journals done comprehensive research on Islamic Capital market and his scholarly work has been published in leading finance journals such as the Emerging Markets Review, Pacific Basin Finance Journal and Journal of Asset Management.

As a FAP member, Dr Alam will be part of a panel that will assess learning programmes submitted for accreditation to ensure their compliance with the FAA Learning Criteria. He will also approve and accredit learning programmes, institutions or individuals and report the evaluation and findings to the FAA Accreditation Committee (FAC).

In November last year, Nottingham University Business School Malaysia secured full FAA accreditation for the MSc Finance and Investment programme in November 2014.

In November last year, UNMC was the first private university in Malaysia and first British university to receive accreditation by The Finance Accreditation Agency (FAA). Nottingham University Business School Malaysia secured full FAA accreditation for the MSc Finance and Investment programme.
