Visitors to Curtin Sarawak Open Day stand to win attractive lucky draw prizes

Attractive lucky draw prizes up for grabs at Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2012 for buyers of Door Gift & Lucky Draw tickets.

Miri – 7 September 2012 – Visitors to the Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2012 at the campus of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) on 15 September 2012 stand to win attractive lucky draw prizes worth over RM36,000.

They will include specially imported e-bikes, Samsung tablets and smartphones, Audio-Technica headphones and vouchers sponsored by leading hotels.

The event will feature lucky draws throughout the day and two Grand Prize Draws offering the grand prizes of an e-bike, a Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S Advance and Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus each.

All purchasers of Door Gift & Lucky Draw tickets for the event are eligible for the lucky draws in addition to redeeming door gifts.

The tickets priced at RM5 each will go on sale to the public at leading shopping complexes by the university’s Student Council this weekend and additional tickets will be sold at the Information, Tickets, Door Gifts and First Aid Booth run by the Student Council and event organising committee during the event.

All proceeds from the sale of the tickets will go to the charities taking part in the event’s ‘Charity & Community Corner’. They include the Human Life Service, MRC Sunflower Centre, Mental Health Association of Sarawak (Miri Branch), The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), Palliative Care Home Programme, Piasau Animal Welfare Support (PAWS), PIBAKIS/PDK Miri and Sarawak Cancer Society.

 The Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2012 with the theme Make Tomorrow Better will be from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on 15 September 2012 and is open to the public.

The event will feature an ‘Innovation Expo’ showcasing how Curtin Sarawak is helping ‘make tomorrow better’ through innovation, its teaching and learning and research, and its holistic approach to education that ensures students are equipped with global knowledge and international experience.

There will also be a ‘Future Students Booth’ where potential students and their parents can learn more about Curtin Sarawak’s academic programmes, facilities and campus life.

Students and members of the public can also learn more through a series of academic talks by lecturers on topics relating to accountancy, human resource management, media and communication, Borneo studies, student experience, Curtin Sarawak’s participation in the annual Shell Eco-marathon, career opportunities in ICT and studying engineering.

In addition, there will be a “Student Support Services Showcase’ featuring student clubs and departments of the university that provide student support and contribute to its vibrant campus life; an ‘Environmental Corner’ where the Miri City Council will showcase its environmental initiatives; and a ‘Charity & Community Corner’ participated by some 15 non-governmental organisations promoting their various causes.

In addition, there will be a ‘Green Mobility Revolution Showcase’ featuring Curtin Sarawak’s entries in the Shell Eco-marathon in 2010 and 2011, specially-imported e-bikes, and cars by leading carmakers, as well as a blood donation drive and free health checks, a wide range of food and beverage, retail and games stalls; photography exhibition; and live musical and stage performances, including a Miri Got Talent competition and Mr & Miss Curtin contest.

Children visiting Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2012 will delight in the ‘Kiddies Corner’ featuring clowns and cartoon character mascots, bouncy castles, and sand art for their enjoyment, as well as a colouring competition, spelling bee and stage performances.

“Curtin Open Day is that special occasion each year when we would invite the community to visit our campus and participate in a variety of interesting activities in a festive and fun atmosphere,” said organising chairman Nicholas Leong.

“It promises to be a most eventful day for everyone, whether you’re keen to know more about studying at Curtin Sarawak; the latest in engineering, science and technology; how you can help save the planet or support charitable causes, or simply want enjoy great food and join the fun and festivities,” he added.
