Curtin Malaysia, Curtin University’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia.

Miri – 12 June 2020 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), the largest international campus of Curtin University located here in Malaysia, along with the University’s campuses in Western Australia and other global campuses in Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius, are all celebrating Curtin’s latest achievement in the QS World University Rankings (QSWUR).

Curtin continues to climb in the just-released 2021 edition of the QSWUR, jumping 13 places from last year to now sit at 217th in the world.

The QSWUR, which highlights the top 1,000 universities in the world, showed Curtin’s continued improvement in these prestigious global rankings, rising 67 places since 2014.

Curtin Malaysia Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Simon Leunig remarked that it is very exciting for the international campuses to see Curtin climbing year-on-year in the rankings. He said the latest ranking results showed Curtin’s continued success on the national and international stages.

“As a global university with a robust One University approach and highly-integrated campuses, it reflects to a great degree on the quality and excellence at the international campuses as well, as evidenced in the International component of the rankings.”

“In Malaysia, it certainly places Curtin Malaysia in the top tier of universities for both learning environment, industry engagement and research outcomes,” he said.

Professor Leunig was echoing the sentiments of Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry, who said in Perth that the 2021 results reflected the University’s world-class performance in research and education, and its dynamic international and industry engagement.

“In a sector that is facing some of its biggest challenges, I am incredibly proud that Curtin’s standing in the world continues to rise,” Professor Terry said.

“Our 2021 scores in the research component are particularly strong, with the University climbing 74 places to rank 127th in the world for citations per faculty due to a 15% increase for that indicator. This result demonstrates the exceptional work of our talented staff in both leading breakthroughs and inspiring the next generation; as well as Curtin’s commitment to world class research.

“Curtin is a truly global university with campuses in Western Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius, and I am especially pleased that the University has once again achieved the highest score possible (100) for the International component of the Rankings.

“Our sustained focus on global impact, collaboration and a strong and expanding network of industry relationships has also assisted in our continued climb in these highly-competitive rankings.”

Curtin University also recently retained its national ranking of ninth in Australia in the Center for World University Rankings’ (CWUR) 2020-21 edition, which measures the academic performance of 20,000 universities across the globe. It assesses the quality of education and academic staff, research performance and alumni employment, confirming Curtin’s position among the world’s top academic institutions.
