Miri – 17 July 2013 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) – the largest international campus of Australia’s Curtin University – will be showcasing how it is helping Curtin fulfill its vision to be a recognised international leader in research and education at the campus’ upcoming Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2013.

The event on from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on 14 September will be an opportune occasion for prospective students and their parents, as well as the local community, to visit Curtin Sarawak and discover what it has to offer in terms of academic programmes, facilities and campus life.

The event on the campus grounds attracts visitors in the thousands each year, and last year, a record 6,130 visitors attended.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Change something today that will make tomorrow better’ in line with Curtin’s goal to bring positive change, embrace the challenges and opportunities of our times to advance understanding, and change lives for the better.

Furthermore, it will incorporate environmentally-friendly initiatives and practices in support of Curtin Sarawak’s environmental sustainability programme and Miri’s goal of becoming a ‘green city’, as well as support of local charities and community causes.

Highlights will include an Innovation Expo featuring the teaching and learning and R&D strengths of Curtin Sarawak’s School of Business, School of Engineering & Science and School of Continuing Studies; a Future Students’ Booth; Student Support Showcase; and public talks by Curtin Sarawak’s academics and invited speakers from industry.

In addition, there will be a ‘Kiddies’ Corner’, ‘Environmental Corner’ and ‘Charity & Community Corner’, as well as a wide range of food and beverage, retail and activity stalls operated by Curtin Sarawak’s student clubs and local businesses; and live musical and stage performances including a ‘Miri Got Talent’ competition and ‘Mr & Miss Curtin’ contest.

Another anticipated crowd-puller will be the event’s lucky draws. Attractive prizes will be given away in a series of lucky draws throughout the day, while the grand prize draws in the morning and afternoon will feature tablets, smartphones and flat-screen TVs.

According to the event organising chairman and Curtin Sarawak’s corporate communications manager, Nicholas Leong, the Curtin Sarawak Open Day is a special time of the year where Curtin Sarawak showcases its campus to the local community.

“Having been in Sarawak for more than 14 years, we take pride in engaging with our local stakeholders and the annual event gives us the opportunity to invite them to spend the day exploring our campus grounds, discovering our achievements, experiencing hands-on activities linked to our academic programmes, and immersing themselves in the opportunity to learn and grow through the many other activities,” he said.
