Preparing students for undergraduate studies through Pathway to Foundation programme

Pathway to Foundation programmes increase access and equity to students wishing to enrol at Curtin Sarawak.

Miri – 7 May 2014 – The Pathway to Foundation programmes recently introduced by Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) presents new educational opportunities for students intending to move into higher education.

The new 3-semester foundation programmes allow students who have completed the SPM examination but have yet to attain the requisite qualifications to enter the university’s 2-semester foundation programmes, to further develop fundamental knowledge and generic skills, and to bridge the gap and transition successfully into the 2-semester programmes.

The pathway programmes are offered in a full-time mode and comprise of four units with 100 credits in engineering and science and commerce streams which students should complete successfully before being granted entry to their preferred 2-semester foundation programmes.

Entry requirements for the 3-semester Foundation Commerce or Foundation Engineering and Science programmes is three SPM credits, of which one credit must be English. Commerce students entering the programme must have five passes in total inclusive of relevant Arts or Commerce subjects, while engineering students must have five passes in total inclusive of Mathematics and Chemistry or Physics.

Meanwhile, those who are interested to enrol in the 2-semester foundation programmes must have five SPM credits inclusive of English. For the Foundation Engineering and Science programme, students must obtain credit in Mathematics and passes in Additional Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.

Curtin Sarawak’s August (second semester) intake is in progress and students who are interested to enrol in its foundation or undergraduate programmes are encouraged to apply now. The earlier March (first semester) intake saw a robust and vibrant enrolment of over 400 new students into the foundation programmes.

The new Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) course will also commence in the first week of August 2014. The 4-year, full-time course is ideal for those who are interested to pursue a career in areas such as water treatment, solid waste management (including industrial and hazardous waste management), and domestic and industrial waste water treatment.

Those enrolling in undergraduate programmes can enjoy an early bird rebate if they enrol before or by 4 July 2014, while those opting for foundation programmes will get a rebate if they enrol before 18 July 2014.
