Victoria University, a dual-sector university

Victoria University (VU) is a leading university in one of the world’s most popular student cities – Melbourne. We offer courses from certificate level through to PhDs, in disciplines including business, information technology, engineering, hospitality and sport.

THE VU BLOCK MODEL
The award-winning Victoria University (VU) Block Model has improved student results and the student experience. You focus on one subject at a time, in small classes with the same teacher for four weeks. Each four-week period is called a block and there are four blocks each semester. You receive your results for each subject before you begin the next block.

Small class sizes and a high level of teacher support help you to adjust to university study in Australia. International students perform particularly well under the Block Model, with a pass rate of 93% and 53% of results being a distinction or above. All undergraduate courses are taught under the Block Model. It is being extended to postgraduate courses in 2021 and VU Polytechnic courses from 2022. The Block Model is exclusive to VU in Australia.

A WORLD-CLASS UNIVERSITY
Victoria University is a world-class university. Our rankings, research, facilities, partnerships and alumni network are all part of our international reputation and are our pillars for growth. We are ranked in the top 2% of universities in the world, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020. We are 51 out of more than 300 universities in the Times Higher Education Asia–Pacific University Rankings 2019. These rankings assess universities across their core missions of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

We are 12 in the world for Quality Education, according to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020, for our contribution to early years and lifelong learning, our teaching research and our commitment to inclusive education.

SCHOLARSHIPS
VU is proud to offer a range of university-funded scholarships to support students, as well as to accept recipients of scholarships funded by the Australian Government and governments of other countries. A scholarship provides financial assistance during your study. Some scholarships cover tuition fees and living allowances, while others provide only partial funding towards tuition fees.

Applications are not required for VU scholarships. You are automatically assessed when you submit your application to study at VU, based on your academic results and the course for which you apply.

INDUSTRY & GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIPS
Our partnerships add value to our courses and ensure our graduates are job-ready. We have more than 4000 industry partners and many of our courses are professionally recognised and accredited. Our courses are tailored to meet industry needs and our students undertake real-world projects, as well as meaningful and engaging internships and work placements. We also work with the Australian and Victorian Governments on initiatives in education, healthcare, infrastructure development, construction and new technologies.

FUTURE-FOCUSED
Our graduates have the creative, problem-solving and technical skills required to thrive in a fast-changing world. Practical learning is reinforced through industry application and supported by skills in communication, collaboration and leadership. Our teaching spaces are optimised for

contemporary learning, including simulation labs with robotics, a high-tech $68 million sport and exercise science research facility, and a new 32-level tower in Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD) scheduled to open in 2022. We are one of only six dual sector universities in Australia.

LIFE IN MELBOURNE
Melbourne is the best student city in Australia and the third best student city in the world, according to the QS Best Student Cities 2019. Melbourne is renowned for its friendly people, great restaurant and café options and its beautiful parks and boulevards. It’s also Australia’s cultural capital and one of the great sport cities in the world. Melbourne has an excellent public transport network that makes it safe, easy and affordable for students to travel to campus, work and around the city. All VU campuses are a short walk from public transport and our city campuses operate within Melbourne’s free tram zone. Melbourne has extensive tram and train networks that stretch across the city. The iconic Flinders Street Railway Station, through which all trains pass, is opposite our City Flinders Campus.

A SAFE & SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY
We are a welcoming and inclusive university. We celebrate cultural diversity and provide opportunities for all students to take part in community and social activities. We have more than 50 student clubs, programs to promote student leadership and activities to support community engagement. Our student advisers are always available to ensure you get the help you need, and the VUSafe app helps to keep you safe and secure. Melbourne is one of the safest cities in the world, according to The Economist Safe Cities Index 2019.
