2 student teams from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) successfully achieved the 1st Runner Up and the 4th Place at the recently concluded UTP – HAX National Hacking Competition 2014 organised by Universiti Teknologi Petronas. In the competition, participants were required to scan, test, hack, defend and use creative and constructive minds to secure a system.
Team Yolo from APU comprising 3 members: Nicholas Ian Nonis, Choong Chih Xien, and Goh Eu Gene, successfully “hacked” their way to success by securing the 1st Runner Up of the competition. On the other hand, Team EZ members – Ahmed Nabil Al-Eryani, Alexandr and Marat, achieved a remarkable 4th Place in the Competition. Both teams received cash prizes of RM 3,000 and RM 1,000 respectively. The team members demonstrated high levels of teamwork, creativity and innovation in achieving this success.
It was a job well done by the students who underwent a one-month intensive training by their mentors and their seniors. “It doesn’t matter which level you are at, how old you are, where you come from. You stand a chance to win, as long as you have the spirit of winning,” said Khoo Li Jing, lecturer of APU and mentor of Team Yolo.
A total of 37 teams from public and private universities participated in the competition which was held on 14th and 15th November 2014 at Universiti Teknologi Petronas.
