新一代中文编剧 在生活和语言中思考

A new generation of Chinese Writers: Reflections on life and language

(Monday 22 August 2016) There has been a perpetual dearth of local scripts in Chinese theatre, and nurturing young scriptwriters has been a somewhat urgent matter. The article interviews four young scriptwriters, Chen Wei Ting, 25, who has been in the theatre industry for 7 years; Chen Yu Yang, 27, an actress and scriptwriter who graduated from NUS’ Theatre Programme; and Huan Borong, 28, who graduated in civil engineering from Nanyang Technological University and is currently a full-time pharmaceutical marketer, also a part-time scriptwriter and part-time DJ. Among the interviewees is NAFA Diploma in Theatre (Chinese Drama) student Wong Tuck Wah, 21.

Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Mandarin Drama Theatre programme is the only local Chinese language performance-based drama programme, which offers practice in scriptwriting short works and scenes, although further studies must be undertaken for such a specialised subject. For this student who hopes to become a scriptwriter, he points out that aside from learning scriptwriting, but there should be passion for the craft. He has written scripts in his spare time and is currently looking for sponsors to produce his first work “Box of Secrets”.
