Miri – 12 March 2018 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is partnering with JobStreet.com, Asia’s leading employment portal, for the professional career development for its students through a number of initiatives, including the launching JobStreet.com’s Graduate Employability Programme, at the university.
The Graduate Employability Programme consists of four segments – Career Services Certification, Student Ambassador programme, University Executive Review, and the setting up of a JobStreet.com Career Lounge.
JobStreet.com Senior Manager for Regional Candidate Marketing, Dominic Wong, and Employability Advisor (Engagement & Partnership), Edmund Teh, were at Curtin Malaysia recently to conduct training for the university’s career services team and the first batch of 10 JobStreet student ambassadors prior to the launch of the programme.
Present at the launch event were Curtin Malaysia’s Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Beena Giridharan, Chief Operating Officer Kingsley Francis Charles, Dean of Learning and Teaching Professor Tang Siew Fun, Dean of Engineering and Science Ir. Professor Lau Hieng Ho, and Associate Director of Marketing and Communications Dinesh Rajenthiran.
Wong and Professor Giridharan presented certificates to the career services team, who are now trained in the workings of JobStreet.com’s recruitment and job matching processes, and the student ambassadors, who are trained to understand the job market dynamics, conduct resume clinics and leadership skills training, and guide their fellow students to be more job-ready.
In her speech, Professor Giridharan commended JobStreet.com for introducing the programme at Curtin Malaysia, saying that it would greatly enhance its students’ professional career development.
“Graduate employability is one of our key foci and it is crucial that our students and graduates are able to maximise their marketability, be well prepared for work in a competitive marketplace, and find the right jobs in their chosen professions,” she remarked.
She added that Curtin Malaysia’s relationships with its industry partners are vital to its ongoing success and the partnership with JobStreet.com is very much in line with its industry engagement strategy, which focuses on developing links with key industry partners to drive its vision of excellence in education and research.
Professor Giridharan also commented that as a university that is committed to producing high-quality graduates that are job-ready, Curtin Malaysia hopes that JobStreet.com would not only provide its students greater access to employment opportunities, but also current and relevant information to understand the job market better.
Wong, meanwhile, said JobStreet.com was glad to collaborate with Curtin Malaysia to prepare graduates for the job market.
“With our understanding and insights on the job market, we aim to provide candidates with the best career opportunities, and at the same time, deliver exceptional value to the employers,” he said.
According to Wong, there are over 16,000 Malaysian Curtin graduates from the university’s Australian and Malaysian campuses registered with JobStreet.com and between 600 and 800 new graduates register each year.
“Curtin graduates are employed across a wide range of industries such as engineering, education, information technology, human resources, and manufacturing and production, and in core business functions such as management, technical specialisations, marketing, business development, finance and accounting,” he said.
The University Executive Review is a JobStreet.com platform that gives the university management valuable insights into Curtin graduates and alumni, such as the professions they are in, their top employers, and the range of salaries they are earning.
The JobStreet.com Career Lounge, which will be set up later this year, will be a dedicated space at the campus where students can get up-to-date job market information and seek career guidance from career services staff and the JobStreet.com student ambassadors.
