Miri – 26 November 2014 – Over 100 members of the Curtin Volunteers! (CV!) of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) were treated to a night of fun at the recent CV! Appreciation Night held at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club.

The event was organised by Curtin Sarawak’s University Life Department to acknowledge the student volunteers’ participation and support in serving the students and staff of the university, as well as the wider community in Miri, over the past 12 years.

The Curtin Sarawak CV! is a chapter of the wider CV! organisation started at Curtin University’s main campus in Perth, Western Australia, in 1994 and now extends across all Curtin campuses in Australia and Asia. It is an entirely student-driven organisation whose mission is to provide volunteering and leadership opportunities for Curtin students.

At Curtin Sarawak, the CV! is the largest and one of the most active student volunteer organisations at the campus. It regularly organises activities and projects in support of rural communities and local charities.

Over the years, it has grown significantly and continually develops volunteer opportunities based on a number of elements, including accessibility, diversity, and mutual benefit for both volunteers and the community. Its programmes enrich the student experience and develop graduate capabilities by providing opportunities which enhance classroom learning, develop soft skills, and build networks.

Present at the dinner were Curtin Sarawak’s Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Ir. Yudi Samyudia, University Life Manager Haslina Malek, CV! President Jean Yap Why Hung, and staff of the University Life Department.

Highlights of the event included the exchange of gifts, stage performances, a video presentation of past CV! events, and a lucky draw. There was also a testimonial sharing session by Curtin Sarawak alumni and former CV! members Antonina Clementina Chai and Anne Tie Mei Ang.

The awards for Best Dressed Male and Female were won by Wong Kah Khing and Lim Qian Ying. Before the end of the night, a handover ceremony took place where the new CV! Exco members received documents of office from the current CV! Exco members.

The CV! Appreciation Night event was sponsored by Estalco Sdn Bhd, Harvest Refrigeration System Sdn Bhd, Engteck Trading & Transport Agency, Intel Dynamic Sdn Bhd, Aewon Trading Co, Sarawak Oil Palm Berhad, Syarikat Kent ECE Sdn Bhd, Liang Hua Printing Sdn Bhd, Reproline Sdn Bhd, Parkcity Everly Hotel, Paragon Lutong Hotel, Imperial Hotel, Steady Packaging Products Sdn.
