Curtin Sarawak offering postgraduate ‘Tuition Fee Only’ scholarships

Curtin Sarawak offering postgraduate ‘Tuition Fee Only’ scholarships

Malaysian and overseas applicants are invited to apply for scholarships.

Miri – 16 May 2014 – To further enhance its research reputation and excellence, Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) is offering a number of full-time ‘Tuition Fee Only’ scholarships for individuals interested to pursue higher degrees by research (HDR) at the university commencing in the second semester of 2014. Applications are sought from enthusiastic and motivated Malaysian and overseas applicants with strong academic backgrounds.

For admission to a HDR programme, applicants would require at least a good Upper Second Bachelor degree or an equivalent level of academic attainment. For those who are in their final semester of an honours degree programme, projected results may be used in an application. In addition, enrolment in either a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil) at Curtin Sarawak is required for the award of a scholarship.

The scholarships are competitive and based on ranking established by academic merit. They cover full course fees for three years for PhD or one and half years for MPhil. However, no stipend is offered for these scholarships.

All scholarship awardees are required to engage in teaching-related activities within the School of Engineering and Science or School of Business at Curtin Sarawak to a maximum of four hours a week during the teaching semesters. Malaysian students can do a further four hours per week teaching to supplement their income.

The degree research can be undertaken in various areas. Under the School of Engineering and Science, the degrees offered are applied geology, chemical engineering, civil and construction engineering, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering and petroleum engineering.

The School of Business offers degrees in accounting, finance, human resources, marketing, small business, strategic management, techno-entrepreneurship and tourism.

Award of a scholarship and/or admission to a higher degree will depend primarily on the availability of an academic supervisor for the intended project and a research topic of mutual interest to the supervisor and the potential student.

For those who are interested in applying, e-mail your initial enquiries to Associate Dean of Research Training Professor Marcus Lee at [email protected] by 31 May, 2014. Applications for admission must be submitted to the Office of Research and Development at Curtin Sarawak by 7 June, 2014.
