EcoSteel presents photography contest prizes to Curtin Sarawak students

Miri – 15 October 2014 – Civil and construction engineering students of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) who took part in the inaugural photography contest organised by EcoSteel Sdn. Bhd. and Curtin Civil Society (CCS) attended the prize-giving ceremony held at the university’s campus yesterday.

The photography contest was organised to encourage the students to open up their minds to exploring possibilities through photos of existing projects, as well as promoting creativity and innovation in the field of construction engineering.

It required the students to take photos of Curtin Sarawak’s iconic Chancellery building, highlighting the aesthetics of its architecture and the structural solutions and fine detailing applied in its design; as well as capture the creative application of steel in its construction.

Under the contest’s Professional Photography Category, Chin Mei Chuo, who is CCS president, won the Honoured Mentioned Award while Daniel Tie Yung Xiang received the Special Mentioned Award.

Ahmed Azan and Kuok Che Heng won the Most ‘LIKES’ Award and Most Creative Award respectively in the Online Photography Category where students were required to post their photos on Facebook and Instagram for online voting.

Present at the prize-giving ceremony were Mei Chee Chiang of EcoSteel and Jennie Chong of BlueScope Steel Malaysia. Also present were Deputy Dean of Curtin Sarawak’s School of Engineering and Science Associate Professor Ir. Lau Hieng Ho, Acting Head of its Department of Civil and Construction Engineering Carrie Ho, and Chin.

Prior to the ceremony, Mei and Chong shared their industrial experience with the students to better prepare them to integrate into their future workplaces, as well as delivered technical talks on the construction of the Chancellery building.
