“#MYSEKOLAH” A Short Video Competition For Secondary Schools

The award-winning teams of #MySekolah video competition poses with judges and prganizing committees from IACT College.

Celebrating Filmmakers of #MySekolah!

(Petaling Jaya, 1 Sept) For a Third year running, aspiring young filmmakers around Malaysia crowded IACT College campus together with their school teachers for the Grand Finale of #MySekolah Short Film Competition. 20 shortfilms were shortlisted for the chance to walk away with RM3,000 cash prize and the tiltle of Mysekolah Video Competition Champion.

#MySekolah is a national level shortfilm competition that showcased the unique culture in each school organized by IACT College, the Creative Communication Specialist. The competition reached, inspired and empowered about 111,517 students over 100 schools nationwide to be engaged.

With the believe that every school has their own distinctive culture, the Organizing Chairperson Mr. Montri Teoh mentions that, “School plays a big part of everyone’s life and #MySekolah allows students to show off their school to the public proudly”

Leading up to the finale, a Video Production Clinic was held to assist students as part of the efforts in grooming young filmmakers, on the 9th of June, approximately 200 students visited IACT College to learn on ideation, scriptwriting & basic filmmaking techniques. It was even lead by industry experts.

After the production clinic, contestants were given 1 month to put their ideas to work. The finished short films were then uploaded onto mysekolah.my for voting. On #MySekolah social media engagement, overall posting outreached to more than 368,000 people via Facebook with overall video views totalling to 1,372,562 (1.3 million) during the weeks of voting. Besides getting popularity votes from the netizens, all videos were also judged by industry experts from IACT College base on creativity, storyline and production value.

The following are the winners for the esteemed competition:

1. Champion: Chung Hwa Middle School No 1, Kuching
2. 1st Runner Up: Real Suria School, Cheras
3. 2nd Runner Up: SMK Puchong Permai

Most Viral Finalist: SMK Green Road (Garnered 32K views)
