Singapore’s Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Private Performance

(11 August 2016, Thursday) In celebration of Singapore’s 51st birthday on 9 August, Mr Mark Low, Consul of Singapore in Medan invited musicians from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) to perform exclusively at the D’Heritage room, in one of Medan’s elite hotels. The 10 senior musicians and NAFA students were led by Joost Christiaan Flach, Dutch musician who is also the Head of Winds, School of Music, at NAFA and has previously worked with the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. They performed several folk songs, such as Alusi Au, Ayam Den Lapeh, dan Gelang Sipatu Gelang. VIPs who graced the event included United States of America Consul Mr Juha P. Salin, Germany Honorary Consul Mr Liliek Darmadi, Malaysia Consul Mr Amizal Fadzli Rajali, and Alliance Française Medan president Ms Pogy Kurniawan. Also in attendance as Cultural Representative of the Dutch Consulate for Sumatera were Mr Rein Meijer and Ms Catherine Meijer.
