The Medits Of The HELP MBA

The ELM Business School building, home of the ELM Graduate School.

The ELM Graduate School of HELP University is a leading provider of graduate education programmes aimed at enhancing the academic and professional capabilities of candidates in a wide range of areas including business, entrepreneurship, leadership and functional management.

It currently offers 12 specialist master’s and 3 research-based programmes (MPhil, DBA and PhD).

Of these, the MBA is popular and enduring. It has produced distinguished alumni who now work in major organisations and multinational companies in many countries.

Executives face unprecedented challenges arising from globalization, 4IR, data-driven commerce, geo-political-economic rivalries, and trade wars. They offer opportunities and force businesses to re-strategise and realign. Obsolete conventional paradigms, traditional management practices and take-for-granted skills have to be replaced by new ways of thinking and innovating.

To succeed, the executives must re-skill and upskill and envision their worldview from new perspectives.

The HELP MBA enables aspiring senior executives to perfect the art of managing the future by focusing on essential areas such as: crafting strategic directions; organizing the company’s shape, structure and system; mobilizing and allocating resources; developing and sustaining the quality of management; building a positive and conducive workplace; fostering excellence in execution and operations; creating a sustainable advantage; managing well in a world of uncertainty; and practising ethical principles in business.

The programme’s facilitators comprise industry leaders, business and management gurus, entrepreneurs, consultants, and leaders of multinational corporations who provide intellectual rigour, deep insights, sharp analysis and a global mindset to nurture eager learners to lead and transform companies and businesses into success stories. This includes industry practitioners involved in teaching or in seminars.

Its flexible 12-module structure makes it highly attractive and popular for busy working adults and students from across the world, more so as it is available in an online mode. Candidates are able to learn in a dynamic and multicultural environment and form useful networks and business connections across continents.

The quality of the HELP MBA programmes was reaffirmed when QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), one of the most widely respected university ratings in the world, awarded it a 5 Star rating based on a rigorous assessment of its curriculum and pedagogy.

The curriculum has been crafted to ensure that, upon completion of the programme, MBA candidates will have sharpened their strategic thinking skills, communicative and leadership abilities as well as strengthened their self-confidence.

More specifically, they will have gained insights into how to: conceive a vision and craft it realistically, align business and people processes with the vision and strategies, strengthen personal leadership, use problem-solving and decision-making skills, develop collaborative team leadership, manage and resolve conflicts, evaluate person and business performances, and influence organizational culture.

The core modules comprise Accounting for Managerial Decisions; Global Human Resource Management; Marketing Management; Operations Management and Analytics; Corporate Finance; and Business and Management Research Methods.

These are rounded up with a Project Paper – the capstone of the MBA programme – in which candidates apply what they have learnt from previous modules to either write a research paper or conduct a research or consultancy project with a real client to study or resolve a business or organisational problem. In this way, they will explore business questions in the real life setting of industries, business climate and business practices.

The elective modules include Leadership and Organisational Behaviour; Strategic Management; Entrepreneurship; Business Ethics; Corporate Finance and Business Economics. Electives are important in the MBA curriculum as they extend the scope for individual specialization and multidisciplinary learning, thus enabling candidates to strengthen their grasp of general management while acquiring a deeper understanding of a particular functional area of business management.

“We are deeply committed to elevate teaching and to integrate teaching and research to enhance students’ learning experience. We take equal pride in training the next generation of confident, humane professionals and life-long learners. We are immensely proud of our alumni whose success in over 20 countries across Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa is testimony to the efficacy of our pedagogy and the soundness of our educational philosophy” said Datin Dr Wendy Liow, who, as Dean of the ELM Graduate School, heads a faculty whose members are distinguished for their leadership roles in, and contributions to, the world of academia, business and industry in the regional and international arena.

The programme also includes a series of research workshops to hone candidates’ research capabilities by equipping them with the skills and methodology to identify and define a problem and solve it using empirical or qualitative data. This is an important competency not just for completing the capstone project; more importantly, research skills train the mind in systematic investigation, thus helping the candidate to be a better problem solver and a better solution provider.

The HELP MBA is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) UK, the institution dedicated to the professional advancement of managers. On completion of the MBA, graduates will receive another professional qualification – the CMI Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership, a Level 7 certification which qualifies them to apply to become a Chartered Manager.
