Future Student Booth and academic talks among highlights of Curtin Sarawak Open Day

Learn from Curtin Sarawak's lecturers at Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2012


Miri – 12 September 2012 – Members of the public, especially potential students interested to pursue their tertiary education at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) are invited to visit the Future Students Booth and attend a series of academic talks during the Curtin Sarawak Open Day on 15 September 2012.

Potential students and their parents can visit the Future Students Booth to learn more about what Curtin Sarawak has to offer in terms of academic programmes, facilities and campus life.

They will also get to talk to academicians, staff and current students who will help them make informed decisions about studying at the university. In addition, they can seek advice on scholarships and loans from three organisations such as PTPTN, Yayasan Sarawak and MARA.

Meanwhile, the academic talks will cover a variety of topics relating to engineering, information technology, business studies, media, communication and Borneo studies, human resource management, as well as student challenges and issues from the perspective of first year students.

Crystal Lau Chun Yun, Head of the Department of Foundation Studies, School of Business, will kickstart the sessions with her talk entitled ‘Student Challenges & Issues: 1st Year Student Experience’ at 10.00 am in the Harry Perkins Lecture Theatre (Falcon 1).

At 10.40 am, there will be two concurrent talks, one entitled ‘Accountants Beyond Number Crunching’ by Dr. Anbalagan Krishnan and Dr. Dhanuskodi Rengasamy, senior lecturers from the School of Business, in the LTBS 1 lecture theatre, and the other entitled ‘Engineer Your Future’ by Ir. Richard Teo Chok Teck, Director of Kiara Bumimas Sdn. Bhd., in LTBS 11. Both venues are located in the School of Business (Heron 2).

At 11.20 am, Associate Professor Dr. Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will share his experience on the ICT industry in LTBS 11, while Ngu Ik Ying, Mawi Taip, Tharshni Kumarasamy and Terry Justin Dit from the Department of Media, Culture and Communication will present a talk on ‘A Different Choice in Degree Studies: Studying Media, Communications and Borneo Studies’ in LTBS 1.

In the afternoon, Rajamohan Ganesan, senior lecturer from the Department of Mechanical Engineering will share the experiences of the Curtin Eco Racing Team (CERT), Curtin Sarawak’s team that participated in the 2012 Shell Eco-marathon at the Sepang International Circuit in July this year. This session will take place at 1.45 pm in LTBS 11.

Also happening at 1.45 pm will be a talk by Dr. Lew Teck Yew, senior lecturer of management from the Department of Marketing and Management, School of Business. His talk will be entitled ‘Human Resource Management: The Secret to Organisational Success’.
