UTAR Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) organised the launch of AppAsia Mobile Challenge 2015 at Lecture Complex II, UTAR Perak Campus on 21 January 2015.

AppAsia Mobile Challenge is a competition that requires students to use their knowledge, ingenuity and creativity to come up with original mobile applications. It is an excellent platform for the students to showcase their creative concept and innovative ideas and to contribute a useful mobile application to mobile users.

The Challenge was jointly launched by UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik and Executive Director of AppAsia Bhd Calvert Wong Ngai Peow. Also present at the launching ceremony were FICT Dean Assoc Prof Dr Liew Soung Yue, UTAR Council Member Hew Fen Yee, AppAsia Production Manager Lim Mei Wei, Talents Engagement Programme Manager Phang Jo Yee, UTAR Deans, staff and students.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof Chuah expressed his deepest gratitude to AppAsia Bhd for their hard work in organising the Challenge and their generous sponsorship for the event. He emphasised on how technologies have a great impact in shaping the way we live, study and communicate with one another. He added, “I encourage students to participate in this Challenge and to use their creativity and innovation to move forward in their future career.”

In his address, Calvert Wong extended his warm gratitude to UTAR for the opportunity to work together in nurturing talents among the students, specifically in the mobile application industry. He shared his experiences in the mobile industry and encouraged students to have a good thinking spirit, the right mindset and passion in order to achieve their dreams.

He advised, “If you love to discover mobile applications, the tendency of developing your talent will eventually grow. Once you achieve it, you can be successful.” Apart from that, he added that if we love to do something, we will do it honestly. “Be passionate in chasing your dreams, never stop inventing new technology and change the world,” enthused Calvert.

The ceremony also saw Calvert handing over a mock cheque of RM12,500 from AppAsia Bhd to Prof Chuah, who received the sponsorship on behalf of the University. A group photo-taking with the students was held after the launching ceremony.

In addition, a mini training session on mobile applications development was also conducted by Lim after the closing ceremony.
