The University of Hong Kong to hold Open House for prospective students in Kuala Lumpur

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is coming to Kuala Lumpur to introduce the latest undergraduate admissions information and professional collaborative programmes on January 20, 2018 (Saturday).

Since the first HKU undergraduate admissions interviews in Malaysia in academic year 2014/15, HKU continues to see increasing interest from talented Malaysian students. In 2017, hundreds of applications were received from Malaysian students, many of whom were top scorers, and have received entrance scholarship of different amounts up to HKD 186,000 per year.

Collaboration with other international universities to give our students options and exposure is an integral part of HKU culture. Perhaps that is why HKU has been consistently ranked the 3rd most international university by Times Higher Education. The recent highlight of our collaborations is the HKU-Cambridge joint recruitment scheme for Engineering and Computer Science which was just launched, whereas the Biomedical Science programme has had several successful articulation programmes with various international universities for a number of years now.

1. HKU-Cambridge University Joint Recruitment Programme
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is pleased to announce a deeper academic collaboration with the University of Cambridge to nurture global Engineering professionals, that will be open for the first time to students from Malaysia. Under this HKU-Cambridge Undergraduate Recruitment Scheme (Engineering and Computer Science), students can graduate with three degrees: Students recruited under the new scheme will spend two years at HKU, and three at Cambridge, and be eligible for Bachelor degrees from both institutions (B.Eng. from HKU; B.A. from Cambridge) and a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) from Cambridge.

This new collaboration between HKU and Cambridge is an extension of the successful ‘HKU – University of Cambridge Joint Recruitment Scheme for Engineering’’ which was introduced in 2011. The original scheme was for Mainland China students, whereas the new scheme is being extended to Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries. HKU’s previous collaboration in Engineering with the University of Cambridge has already proved to be valuable to both universities. The students who were recruited under this scheme have been extremely successful in their studies at Cambridge, often topping the examinations. Additionally, the first graduating students have been sought by employers in the UK, Hong Kong and Mainland China.

2. Articulation Programmes for Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences students
Articulation programmes have been incorporated in the Biomedical Sciences programme for the students to branch off towards a professional career like that of a physiotherapist or a veterinarian. In their third year, students choose from partner universities like University of Sydney and study first year courses of the physiotherapy; or University of Edinburgh for first year courses of veterinary medicine. They come back to HKU to finish their final year and can continue pursuing the rest of their graduate degree after. After completion of biomedical science study at HKU, students can pursue a Master of Physiotherapy or Master of Diagnostic Radiography at The University of Sydney. The animal lovers can pursue a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at The University of Edinburgh. These collaborations have specifically been fashioned for students to explore interests and careers.

We cordially invite press members to join this event. There will be admissions talks conducted by Dr. Philip Beh from the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, who is also the Chairman of the University Admissions Committee, and Dr. Fiona Kwok from the Faculty of Engineering on Jan 20. A media interview session has also been arranged for press members if you’d like to learn more about the programmes mentioned above.
